Believing they have a unique approach for improving men's lives, Crowley, a former litigator, and Lodge, a board-certified internist, collaborated to write this "evolutionary" health program. The authors base their plan on the idea that instead of looking forward to decades of pain as the body slowly deteriorates, it's possible to live as if you were 50, maybe even younger, for the rest of your life. Yet with the exception of "Harry's First Rule"—exercise at least six days a week—there isn't much that's new or groundbreaking in their agenda. Most recommendations fall under the "common sense" umbrella, though these suggestions may be news to many men, who aren't as steeped in the world of health and fitness as most women are (they may find the chapters dealing with nutrition and biology particularly informative). The authors' method of proffering their philosophy is rather trite, however, and their cavalier demeanor belies the significance of what they have to say. More than one-third of the book is devoted to how and why they came up with this program based on their own lives, with special attention to 70-year-old Crowley's impressive abilities (he says he can ski better now than he could 20 years ago). All told, this manual for healthy living offers sound, if unoriginal, advice with some hackneyed padding.

Life changing!

This book changed my life. I read it about 5 years ago. I was a 52 year old overweight couch potato who had been inactive most of my life. Needless to say, I had never been athletic either. In my fifties I believed the popular misconception that you get older and your body falls apart. Turns out that's a symptom, not a cause. Long story short--I'm able to run a half marathon now and before I read the book I had never even run around the block. I lost 40 pounds, too! Younger Next Year is my fitness Bible. Eye opening and life changing!

Every man who is retired should read this book!!!

Every man who is retired or will be retiring in the near future should read this book.

Lots of men including myself look forward to retirement. When we get there retirement is very disappointing. It can bring a feeling of isolation and lack of significance. Maybe a feeling of being adrift with no horizon in sight. It's kind of like "why get up in the morning?" Aches and pains, mood swings, depression - all are common in retirement.

This book identifies those feelings and offers solutions. The solutions are exercising regularly to get fit and stay fit, eating sensibly and not eating "crap" and connecting with other people. It makes sense.

Based on the books recommendations I made changes in my own life three months ago that are making a huge difference. I go to the Fitness Center each morning for an exercise class with 25 other people. Twice a week I work out with a personal trainer who did an analysis of my strengths and weaknesses and follows a specific written plan. I joined a hiking and adventure group. I started wearing a Fitbit heart rate and fitness band Fitbit Charge 2 Heart Rate + Fitness Wristband, Blue, LargeFitbit Charge 2 Heart Rate + Fitness Wristband, Blue, Large. And I started volunteering one day a week at at places like the local Nature Center.

I never would have believed the difference these changes would make in the quality of life in retirement. I'm feeling good. I'm feeling strong, I'm eating healthy. And I am really enjoying connecting with people again. When men retire we lose our social structure. it's important to build a new social structure. It makes a huge difference.

For two years I've been depressed. My doctor prescribed antidepressants. My wife became very concerned about my well being. But after reading this book and taking its recommendations to heart, I'm off the antidepressants and my wife is amazed and excited about the change in my mood.

I purchased the book because of a newspaper article recommending it, especially the stretches and exercises that were supposed to be in the appendices. The book I received did not have them. I must have been sold a previous or outdated edition. Quite disapointing!

Good books on robotic motion don't go out of style

This book was published in 1985, and is still in print at the time I am writing this. However, used copies are selling in the dollar range. If you just ignor the parts of the book that talk about robotic applications and industrial trends that have expired long ago and focus on the very useful portions that teach how to perform the calculations for robot motion, this is a very good book. It has many clear examples and explains all of the formulas in a detailed fashion that you don't commonly find in the more expensive modern texts that attempt to explain robot motion along with other related subjects such as computer vision. The prerequisites for understanding this book are the same as for taking an engineering level course in robotics - matrix algebra, elementary calculus, statics, ordinary linear differential equations, and Laplace transforms. Knowledge of dynamics, computer programming, and control theory, while useful, is not really necessary.

Several problems are presented at the conclusion of each chapter, many of which refer to statements made in the textbook. In this way, the reader is encouraged to actively participate in the development of a particular mathematical equation or a specific numerical result. Five appendices are provided to ensure a common level of understanding of a particular subject before it is introduced in the main text. The following is the detailed table of contents:

Great book

If you're getting started in the robotics world this is a great book to get you started. There are plenty of examples in here and it breaks everything down and written in actual english so you don't have to be a genius to interpret what the author is saying. Good condition and came in handy many times in my robotics courses.

Quite possibly Dr. Seuss's greatest work

"On Beyond Zebra" was my favorite of Dr. Seuss's books when I was a child, and as an adult I appreciate the insight and humor of this classic even more. The concept of the book is simple: the narrator introduces young Conrad Cornelius o'Donald o'Dell to the weird and wonderful letters that come after "z" (yes, AFTER "z"), and provides the wide-eyed child with a marvelous bestiary of the Seussian creatures whose names begin with these letters.
Actually, Seuss's post-"z" letters appear to constitute a syllabary rather than a true extended alphabet, but why quibble over technical details? The letters/syllabics and their accompanying creatures represent Seuss at his most delightful. And best of all, he leaves the door open for readers to create their own extension to the alphabet/syllabary!
More than mere whimsy, "On Beyond Zebra" is a truly mind-expanding book. Through fantasy and humor, Seuss challenges us to open our minds to new possibilities; he encourages us to tear down artificial walls that restrict our intellectual and creative growth. This book would be as useful in teaching pedagogical theory to college students as it is for entertaining children. "On Beyond Zebra" is a triumph.

Dr. Seuss was a prophet of unfettered imagination

If I were to start my own religion, this would probably be the most sacred text. Dr. Seuss possessed powers of pure imagination unequaled in all of children's literature, and this book is the most inspiring, mind-expanding example of his divine gift. Even more important than Cat in the Hat or The Lorax, every baby born into this world should be given a copy of On Beyond Zebra. Buy it and give it to a child you love today!

Altered perspectives for life

This book introduced "paradigm shifting" into my intellectual vocabulary before I even knew what such a thing was.

Many, many, many years ago (Nixon was President, I think) I read this and was changed. I can remember the the images, the textures, the smells (Ah! The ditto machine and its purple perfume!) and all my surroundings. I was sitting in the elementary school library, facing northwest toward the door. Lured by the title and the premise, I had taken the volume to my assigned seat ("Library" was a class back then, as it should have been) and quickly devoured it.

The concept - that our 26-letter alphabet was an arbitrary collection and not a universal constant on a par with gravity - had never entered my cartoon-addled mind. It sparked an awareness of similar cultural and philosophical constrictions that I have expanded and retained to this day.

Hats off to the Dr.!

Queer life in all its forms

'The Giddy Death of the Gays and the Strange Demise of Straights' is about queer life in a drab town, and features within its pages a violent homophobic attack, a white pride rally and a torched nightclub. But it's a testament to Redfern Jon Barrett's vibrant writing that the overall message is one of love, hope and happiness.

The novel introduces several young characters each with their own perspectives on getting by, ranging from stressed-out postgrads to a manic queer perfume counter assistant whose boredom and frustration get relieved first on unwitting customers, then through his own life adventures. They make friends, fall in love and fall out, and these bonds tangle up and strangle any conventional definition of what a relationship 'really' is. At the heart of these is a deep, non-sexual relationship between two heterosexual men, and Barrett's writing devotes as much seriousness and passion to this bond as any other in the book.

Witty and readable, 'Giddy Death' has something genuinely new to say and drives it through the mouths of its wonderful characters. Maybe sometimes the world around you can seem grim, but it's all about the people you're with.

A romcom with a difference

A very well written novel that is disarmingly readable. It was so engaging I ended up reading it in one sitting. Barrett manages to cram so much in: great story-lines, social commentary, complex characters and some interesting and thought-provoking ideas about the nature of love, relationships and sexual identity. There are some beautifully expressed moments of self-discovery which I found particularly moving, and I'm certain any reader who has found themselves at odds with mainstream conventions of gender, sexuality and relationships will be equally touched. I thoroughly recommend reading it!

Dark & witty romantic comedy

If dark romantic comedy were a genre, this would be it. Giddy Death is funny and vibrant, and despite its dark wit still manages to be hopeful and charming. The story follows a handful of disparate twenty-somethings living in a fading small town populated with drunks and racists, as they figure out how their relationships do (or should) work. The path they strike out on diverges from the expected, a quickly-changing situation moving from same-sex platonic love to a polyamorous trio.
The strength of the characters carries you through the ups and downs, and I left them feeling quite uplifted.

About the Author
Reinhard Bonnke is the founder of the international ministry Christ for all Nations, which has recorded 55 million documented decisions for Jesus Christ in the first ten years of the new millennium. He began his missionary work in Africa in the early 1967 and, since his early days of tent meetings, has conducted nationwide meetings with as many as 1.6 million people in attendance in one service. He and his wife, Anni, have three children and eight grandchildren.

Sound thinking, keen spiritual insight, doctrinal integrity.

This book, TAKING ACTION by Reinhard Bonnke, is full of wisdom, sound thinking, keen spiritual insight, doctrinal integrity.

-Do you have questions about how the Holy Spirit operates?
-Are you looking for guidance and wondering if you're hearing God correctly?
-Have you ever had a bad experience with the supernatural gifts?
-Do you wonder why there are so many problems when people try to operate in the spiritual gifts?
-Is there such a thing as God's power, in action, in our lives?
-Can we be sane and sober minded and yet powerful people of God?

If you have ever asked any of of these questions, or all of of them, then you'll want to read this book.

My copy is completely marked up with notes and exclamation points and underlining unlimited! Reinhard Bonnke writes with authority, confidence, and conviction, yes; but it's balanced with humility and an understated ego. You'll find some practical advice in here and good sound counsel. There's a light humorous touch, at times, and that is so welcome when you're reading through weighty matters.I can't tell you the last time I respected a Christian author so highly!

I particularly loved the chapter on FAITH, and Bonnke is right: "there is no subject that calls for explanation from the Scriptures more than faith and the gift of faith. We particularly want to bring help on this matter." Have you ever had questions about how, exactly, you're supposed to "move mountains" with faith? Bonnke is tackling the outrageous claims of Christ, and he doesn't shy away from a single one! He will warn you, though, about what we have already seen happen with these explosive subjects: "Now, about doing the impossible- awful mistakes have been made."You see? The man is not afraid to deal with reality even when discussing the supernatural.

Bonnke is traversing difficult waters but still centering in on the soundness and reliability of God's Word and God's love. He writes about miracles and powerful things that can take place when we walk with God, but "the object is not to pull off a few sensational wonders, like stage tricks, but the redemption of the world."

This author visibly preaches God, as evidenced by his worldwide ministry; but he preaches our responsibility in partnering with God as well: obedience is a key word throughout the book. You won't find snake handlers and magicians and crooked, corrupt Personalities proclaiming that word, first. Bonnke writes, "Note carefully that anointing is not a kind of emotional pleasure, but it comes into activity when we serve."(Italics mine)

But along with service and obedience and discipline, you can expect anointing and power to live this life! And Bonnke will carefully explain how this occurs, how the Gifts operate, how to wisely use them, and what, exactly, they are. Expect to learn some Greek and Hebrew, expect to understand the context of Scriptural passages- in fact, expect to realize you need to study the Bible more, not just skim it!

I'm not sure the world will note the wisdom in this book. But if you read this, you will find a world of life changing possibilities waiting to be explored-- if you seriously consider whether or not there's truth in not only what he says, but in what God says is possible.

Unconquerable through the Holy Spirit

Reinhard Bonnke could arguably be one of the most wanted men in the kingdom of darkness: Witches hunt him down, sorcerers cast spells against him, and occultists perform satanic rituals to hinder him and his powerful evangelical ministry, Christ for All Nations.

No worries. Bonnke's detailed study on the gifts and power of the Holy Spirit in his book, "Taking Action," explains why the enemy's attempts are "futile against...[this] blood-bought child of God." Bonnke also stresses that the anointing is for every believer and not for a select few or elite crowd (Joel 2:28).

"Taking Action" is flooded with scriptures, testimonies and detailed research down to the Greek language. If you're big on cross-referencing, I suggest keeping a Bible nearby while reading, and especially when coming across controversial topics such as speaking in tongues, counterfeit (satanic) gifts and exorcising demons to name a few.

Bonnke's in-depth focus on each gift of the Spirit is quite impressive. Though, I do not completely agree on all viewpoints. In the chapter on discernment, Bonnke assumes that Christians cannot have a demon: "If our lives are hidden with Christ in God, and we have a demon, then it would mean that the demon hidden in us is also hidden in God! That is unthinkable."

We are all made up of three parts. Our spirit belongs to God but our soul and body can most definitely be affected by demonic spirits (1 Thessalonians 5:23). Depending on the circumstances (open doors due to sin for example), the spirit-filled Christian has the potential of becoming demonically oppressed (not possessed).

Jesus did a whole lot of healings and deliverances (among other things) that were not written in the Bible (John 21:25). Accompanied with the Word of God, the Holy Spirit is able to reveal deep and secret things (Daniel 2:22) about demonic oppression, witchcraft attacks, deliverance strategies and even expose the enemies' devices (2 Corinthians 2:11).

For sure, Bonnke is correct when he writes that "...we fight [demons] by preaching the Word of truth." And regardless of our differences, Bonnke's zeal for the Word of God is evident as he educates his readers on how to move in the anointing and tap into the various gifts God offers His children. Grab yourself a copy and learn what it means to be unconquerable through the Holy Spirit.

Biblically Solid and Timely

"Take Action" by Reinhard Bonnke is book based on sound biblical teaching, and offers a timely message to all who follow Christ. I must admit, I was a bit skeptical of this book going into it. I've seen and read many sensational misapplications of the Gifts of the Spirit, but after reading through Bonnke's teaching on the matter I am greatly encouraged that there are Charismatic leaders who are boldly standing for the full-message of the Bible.

The first part of this book gives some basic ground rules for the gifts, which provide a nice primer for those who may not have grown up with this kind of teaching in their churches. Bonnke basically asserts, far more eloquently than I am here, that all we do within the Gifts of the Spirit should be done within the context of God's wisdom and God's love. Without these two foundations, any action we take on behalf of God will be nothing more than, as the Apostle Paul would say, a "clanging symbol". The second part of the book then goes on to explain each of the individual Gifts of the Spirit.

I am writing this review on the day of horrific shootings in Aurora Colorado, a town and people for whom my heart breaks. It is horrific events such as this that make a book like this, explaining the Gifts of the Spirit, so timely. Our world needs a Church that is filled the Holy Spirit and acts on the gifts He gives us.
