Más allá de lo anterior, Moncada denuncia la ineficacia de la legislación con que se ha intentado parar la incesante acumulación de cadáveres. La única solución del problema es precisamente lo que no han podido hacer las autoridades: atrapar a los homicidas.

En esta narración, el horror no se logra con recursos literarios, sino con los hechos escuetos que muestran cómo los criminales asesinan a los periodistas sin cuidarse de sexos, hora, lugar o autoridades.

En el camino, un juicio permanece: No se mata la verdad matando periodistas.

Carlos Moncada Ochoa. Nacio en Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, en 1934. Licenciado en Derecho por la Universidad de Sonora; especializacion en Derecho Constitucional por la UNAM. Se inicio como reportero en Ciudad Obregon en 1953. Ha sido Director del Diario del Yaqui, de 1961 a 1963, Director de la Revista de la Universidad de Sonora, de 1964 a 1967, Director del semanario Claridades de 1970 a 1971, Director de la revista Impacto de 1989 a 1991. Ha colaborado en Novedades, El Heraldo de Mexico, La Prensa, Unomasuno y Excelsior. Actualmente escribe para Critica, de Hermosillo. Es autor de mas de 30 libros, entre los que destacan: El Mexico de aca visto desde el mas alla (1976), Cayeron. 67 gobernadores derrocados (1979), Diez en el poder (1997), El Quijote de la Revolucion: Adolfo de la Huerta (1982), La Sonora cruel y verdadera (1999), Recuerdo que recuerdo (2000), Hablemos de mujeres, cuentos (2005). Entre otros reconocimientos, ha obtenido el Primer premio en el concurso nacional de cuento, en Puebla, 1971, el Diploma especial en el concurso nacional del Club de Periodistas en 1973, Premio del Congreso del Estado de Sonora por su trayectoria periodistica en 2001, el Reconocimiento del Club Primera Plana, de Mexico, como decano del periodismo en Sonora, 2006. En 2008, el Instituto Sonorense de Cultura puso su nombre a la Feria del Libro y publico una antologia de su obra: Pistas para encontrarme, del maestro Leonel Peru.

Warren Bennis is Distinguished Professor of Business Administration at the University of Southern California and a consultant to multinational companies and governments around the world. A Life-Long Exploration of Self

The late Vince Lombardi once asserted that leaders are made -- they are not born. "And they are made just like anything else that has ever been made in this country -- by hard effort and that's the price we all have to pay to achieve that goal, or any goal." Bennis and Goldsmith agree. Theirs is literally a WORK book. The material is organized within these seven chapters:
Leadership for a Successful Future ["Followers, who are often partners in an endeavor, look to leaders to interpret reality, explain the present, and paint a picture of the future."]
How to Use This Workbook ["We are introducing a different path to leadership development -- one that has twists and turns. It may not take a reader on a direct route to a finite end-place."]
The Leadership Crisis ["Where have all the leaders gone?...In the past two decades, there has been a high turnover, an appalling mortality -- both occupational and actuarial -- among leaders."]
Knowing Yourself ["If we have a clear awareness of who we are, we can develop the habit of staying tuned to what we say and do."]
NOTE: Bennis and Goldsmith agree with Shakespeare's Polonius ("To thine ownself be true") as does James O'Toole who, in The Executive's Compass and in Leading Change, has much of value to say on the subject of congruence of values and behavior.
Creating and Communicating a Vision ["Vision animates, inspirits, and transforms purpose into action."]

Realizing Intention Through Action [Those who would be leaders "need to know where you begin and where you want to go....flesh out those routes, elaborate them, revise them, and map them, complete with possible pitfalls and traps as well as rewards"....also you must "look to see if the direct route is the most sound, or whether you should make a more circuitous approach....you plan your resources and identify your allies....examine your map objectively, as if you were not its maker....Finally, when you have finished the strategy, you set out to climb the mountain."]
The authors share a wealth of their own observations and suggestions in each of the seven chapters. What sets this book apart from others which address similar subjects is its inclusion of dozens of exercises for the reader to complete within the (WORK) book. The reader is also provided with "Books on Leadership: An Annotated Bibliography" prepared by Emmeline de Pillis, Anthony Khoo, and Hyepin Im. To their excellent suggestions I would add Tichy's The Leadership Engine because, as Goldsmith observes, "Our book proposes that in our world of startling changes and overwhelming challenges, leadership is needed at every level and in every nook and corner of our organizations. We can only have the leadership we need if individuals are encouraged, motivated and supported to create themselves as leaders on a day by day basis." I also recommend Fitz-enz's The ROI of Human Capital because, without effective leadership, no organization can possibly derive greatest benefit from its most valuable asset. Again quoting Goldsmith, "The insights, theories, exercises, and tools included within our book guide leadership explorations and discoveries by staff, managers and executives at all levels of their organizations and in all areas of their lives."
For whom will this excellent book be most helpful? First, for senior-level executives who are already leaders of others and feel the need for what could perhaps be called a "tune-up" of basic principles. Also, for those who aspire to be leaders and are willing and able to complete the exercises with both rigor and (more importantly) candor. Finally, for students of business now in preparation for careers which may soon begin. (This book would be an excellent holiday or graduation gift.) Bennis and Goldsmith conclude as follows: "We hope you will continue to develop what you have begun in the learning partnership we have created here together. We look forward to knowing you more directly in the future. Empowerment leads to quality and ultimately to love of ourselves, of our work, and of life. More we cannot wish you." Nor can I.

A straight-forward look at Leadership

Clarity. Simple, straight-forward, clarity. In the hustle and jive of selling leadership, this book stands out. As the authors point out, leadership has become a growth industry. In our hunger for answers to increasingly complex problems, we consume vast quantities of pretty unsubstantial literature on leadership. "Learning to Lead" brings a clarity to the matter of leadership development that is refreshing. The authors don't try to boil a complex subject down to aphorisms, but they do succeed in clarifying the route to developing leadership. They focus their efforts on exercises that will test and reinforce an aspiring leaders ability to know themselves, to create and communicate a vision, to maintain trust through integrity (couldn't a few of our leaders use that!) and realizing intention through action. Simple. Clear. Straightforward.
The exercises, although mostly paper and pencil activities that anyone could do without cooperating partners, are appropriate for the format of the book. Again they seek to clarify our vision of what we can do, even if we are not Gandhi, Martin Luthor King or Napoleon, to exercise leadership in our lives and our communities. This book is both inspirational and immanently practical. I awarded this book only 4 stars simply for the lack of graphics and visual content. It could have been more effective if it had been developed with visual learners in mind.

The Leadership Guru Does It Again!

This is a book which is incredibly hands on and easy to access. Bennis focuses on the essentials of leadership and unlike so many others, he gives concrete tangible steps for people to take to help them discover their own leadership potential. It is useful for individuals and for groups. It has application for people from all walks of life, at all stages of life and at all stages of personal development!

Great book for people who are just starting on the topic

I got this book for my 16 year old daughter who was interested in the topic. She read it in about two days because she read it non-stop. It was a challenging read but fruitful. She loved it. What she liked about it was that was organized really well and it gave a background on every topic. Also at the end of each chapter was a section on recommendations based on current knowledge, which was directly helpful for understanding what to do. It repeated things a lot to ensure the reader understood the points of view, which was also great. Recommended for anyone wishing to get into this topic and looking for a great first book to read.

I loved this book! It's well organized and breaks down complex concepts so that they're both interesting and very informative. It does help to have a little medical knowledge or you'll have to look things up as you go, but overall the book is very accessible and the information is easy to understand. Highly recommended.

Great travel guide!

Really good travel guide! I purchased this for a planned trip and it helped me feel far more prepared. I had spent my childhood growing up in Africa and have the fondest memories of Tanzania especially. This travel guide was very thorough and did a good job of presenting some options for varying budgets, from basic options to luxury options. I appreciated the maps very much but was hoping for a more recent edition. This hasnt been updated for three years during which time so much can change. Hotels and safari tour operators can come and go. Great photographs. I highly recommend this book.

An Amazon Best Book of November 2016: Last year’s Reacher book, Make Me, ended on a minor medical cliffhanger which I, for one, was looking forward to seeing resolved this Fall. But author Lee Child isn’t giving up the goods so easily. Instead of picking up where that book left off, he takes Reacher back in time to 1996. Still in the Army, Reacher is coming off a medal-earning career triumph when he is sent back to school. His three-man class (Reacher, a CIA guy and an FBI agent) however, is a front for a secret mission: figure out the plot behind a message intercepted in Germany which reads “the American wants 100 million dollars.” The good news for fans is that all the familiar elements show up in Night School: the words “Reacher says nothing” appear at least half a dozen times, and as usual, Reacher combines mechanical precision and brute strength to beat up bad guys with a degree of violence falling somewhere between Bruce Lee and a backhoe. Best of all, fan-favorite Sergeant Frances Neagley makes a welcome reappearance, riding shotgun with Reacher as he hunts for his quarry. Is the plot as robust and impressive as our hero? Not entirely, but readers will barely notice. Twenty-one books into this series it’s clear that what makes them work as well as they do is the joy of watching Reacher’s extraordinary powers of deduction working in tandem with his remarkable ass-kicking abilities. Lee Child's new book, "Night School" - a little less of the Jack Reacher we know and love, but still very good.

I’ve read all 20 Jack Reacher novels, written by Lee Child. I jumped at the chance to evaluate copy of his newest book. You don’t read 20 of anything unless you really like the characters, and “Night School” is no different. Taking place back in the mid-90’s Military Police Major Jack Reacher is reassigned to go back to school – but it isn’t what anyone thinks. It’s really just a cover to investigate a possible act of treason and terrorism. Reacher teams up with his old colleague Sgt. Frances Neagley and a group of new folks representing the FBI, CIA and the national Security Council to find out what is happening and how to stop it. The best part of a mystery is finding out what happens, so I won’t spoil anything, but Jack Reacher does his usual thing and in the end prevails in the usual Reacher fashion. The interaction between Neagley and Reacher, along with the other team members is entertaining.

That’s the good part, now the part that isn’t quite as good. I like Reacher novels because over the years he has been consistent - Jack Reacher is a really interesting character – keeps a clock in his head – always know exactly what time it is. Calculates the physics of a punch before he throws it, etc. In this book, Reacher is a bit more superficial. There is a lot less of Reacher’s thought process in this book and I felt it made the book a bit less fun to read. In fact, I can only give it “4 Stars” because it’s good – very good, in fact… but it lacks a bit of what makes Reacher novels so enjoyable.

Reacher fans will love it. Folks new to the series will enjoy it, as well. I enjoyed it. I just wish Lee Child done a bit more to keep Reacher’s character as unique and entertaining as he has done in the past.

Not Your Usual Child

I've been a Lee Child fan since reading my first Jack Reacher novel, so you can imagine my disappointment when I began Night School and discovered it wasn't the old ex-Army Reacher. Night School is set in the era before Reacher left the Army. The story itself is okay, good even, but not the independent Reacher we've come to know. To be sure, some of the elements are there such as his impeccable logic, but it just doesn't have the same Reacher feel. Does my disappointment mean I'll stop buying Child's novels? No, it just means I'll scrutinize them much closer and won't buy them on a pre-release basis.

I love Reacher novels, and own them all, but this one was flat-out boring. Normally I can't stop reading and end up losing sleep because I have to know what happens next. With "Night School" I had to force myself to keep going. I'd suggest skipping this one, or waiting till later once the price has dropped.

About the Author

Randy Knight taught introductory physics for 32 years at Ohio State University and California Polytechnic University, where he is Professor Emeritus of Physics. Professor Knight received a Ph.D. in physics from the University of California, Berkeley and was a post-doctoral fellow at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics before joining the faculty at Ohio State University. It was at Ohio State that he began to learn about the research in physics education that, many years later, led to Five Easy Lessons: Strategies for Successful Physics Teaching and this book, as well as College Physics: A Strategic Approach, co-authored with Brian Jones and Stuart Field. Professor Knight’s research interests are in the field of laser spectroscopy and environmental science. When he’s not in front of a computer, you can find Randy hiking, sea kayaking, playing the piano, or spending time with his wife Sally and their six cats.
