Autoimmune illnesses can be cured

Courtney's story is also my story. I was diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis 5 years ago and decided that I would do everything within my power to heal myself naturally. My hepatologist/gastroenterologist at the time was furious that I would dare go against his prescription of prednisone and imuran (those meds were destroying my body) and seek natural remedies. Removing foods that I was sensitive to (gluten and soy) from my diet, using vitamin D3 and other vitamins, milk thistle, alpha-lipoic acid and low dose naltrexone (LDN) saved me. I am a very healthy and energetic middle-aged woman today with no signs of the autoimmune disease. Folks, do not listen to your doctors when they say that there is no cure for autoimmune illnesses. Please read the book "Honest Medicine".

We are beating AIH too!

My son was diagnosed with Auto-Immune Hepatitis about 9 months ago. I read this book twice and then made my wife read it. Also read other books on ALA and Auto-Immune in general. 9 months ago, my son was put on Predisone and Azathioprene, and his health diminished and he was weak and open to getting sick on a regular basis.
We started following the protocol, and within 1-2 weeks, noticed an improvement in his overall health. After 1 month, I am happy to report my son's labs are almost completely normal. My wife and I are thrilled! This works and I ask that you please have the courage to try this, you won't be disappointed.

Super read for anyone with chronic illness

Moms are the best, and Denise is at the top of the list- treating autoimmune diseases with drugs is a disgrace, especially for children. This book should be read by everyone (especially moms with chronically ill children) with an autoimmune or chronic disease. Drugs cause cancer and more illnesses - don't believe your doctors!

I found the book quite entertaining, providing interesting historical facts about blood grouping. Educational at the same time, providing key information about blood groups. There's so much you can learn from this book.

Sacred Images of a Divine One resurrected for our times

This book brings delight to those of us that can not get enough of the sacred imagery that represents the Ancient Egyptian deity Set.

Containing well executed line drawings of many images hitherto lost or forgotten to time, the authoress has compiled a feast of both pictorial and literal information that traces Set’s iconography through the ancient age.

Both scholarly and an art piece in its own right, each chapter has its own collection of reference notes revealing the sources from which the authoress has drawn. The book concludes with a meaningful discussion of the deity’s re-emergence today, including more literal quotes and her own wonderful poetry.

Joan Lansberry – surely a High Priestess of the God then, and probably now also – has done Him honour with this tome that surely heralds His remanifestation into our modern aeon. The book has already inspired new art works with THIS artist.

I just purchased this book recently and am very pleased with its contents! I enjoy the many fine illustrations combined with an intelligent format and chronological explanation! This book is extremely well researched. I have enjoyed the book so much I have had difficulty putting it down! The reader will gain enormous insight into the Egyptian God: Set and His changing roles and Deific Faces within the ancient Egyptian culture.The author covers Set from His earliest images progrssively through the 21st Dynasty and beyond!

One of a Kind

Ms. Lansberry's study of this misunderstood diety also serves as a unique introduction to Egyptian history and mythology. While some familiarity with the subject matter is helpful, it is not needed. You will learn about hierogylphics, art, architecture, the dynasties and the important rulers. Joan does this by examining various artificats from different periods of Egyptian culture. An enormous amount of research and effort went into this book; I highly recommend it to art history students for this reason. Those planning to visit the Land of the Pharaohs will find Images of Set helpful. You will appreciate what you see and have a few destinations added to your itinerary. While it is accessible to amateurs, there is a lot of information here. Reading it twice is a good idea; reading a cursory overview of Egyptian history may be a better one. It is a specialist text but it imparts a great deal of general knowledge.
I also like the way she arranged her bibliography. Rather than overwhelming the reader with cited sources at the end of the text, she includes them at the end of each chapter. This is perfect if you plan to do further research on any of the topics covered.

Fascinating and Funny

I've been reading a lot of brain books recently and this is one of the best. It reminded me of Daniel Kahneman's Thinking Fast,Thinking Slow, and of On Intelligence by Jeff Hawkins. Like those books, it made me feel like I was an ideal observer, looking into my own brain churning away doing its stuff, and finally understanding how I work. Exhilarating. But Stephens's book stands apart from the others in one important way. It reads like a novel. I powered through it in a weekend.In fact, I set aside a pretty good Scandinavian suspense thriller to read this one because this one was more fun. Believe me, I don't often set aside Scandinavian thrillers to delve into advanced biology. The people I was with kept asking me what I was laughing about and looked skeptical when I said "neural science," but it's true. The thing is, in this book, "funny" is not comic relief. The jokes and wisecracks and metaphors are all integral to making complex topics clear as glass. Perhaps it was only my right brain laughing, but it sure felt like all of me reading.

One Great Read

The Left Brain Speaks, The Right Brain Laughs is the best book written, that I have read, that bridges the gap between mathematics, physics and neurology. Ransom takes a light tone, with a dash of cavalier attitude and a pinch of bravado, to make the topic lively. He tells the story of the brain with wit and style that engages your right brain to find delight in learning. This is a rare gift. I put it up there with Marcus du Sautoy (Symmetry) and Leonard Mlodinow (Euclid's Window) in telling stories on a technical subject with personal anecdotes. It's the highly personal style that makes the book so readable. The major difference is that Ransom is much funnier. Loved the book. Would highly recommend it to all my friends.

About the Author

Well-done yet incomplete

I bought this book to help me work with adolescents during my counseling internship. While it is very easy to follow, and the treatment plans are laid out in step-by-step precision, I was disappointed to learn that most of the extensive exercises recommended by the book require that you purchase other books. This book itself wasn't inexpensive and I wished the publishers had included reproducible copies of the exercises rather than refering you to another book. The book also includes books and games in the treatment plans which must be purchased. So while the treatment plans seem worthwhile, I couldn't put many of them fully into practice without considering more purchases.

surface but instructive

I had great hopes for this book. After I glanced at it, I purchased it immediately. It certainly does reorient you to the distinctions between goals, objectives and diagnoses, but after using it for a while, it just wasn't sufficient for those more complicated kids. I'll keep referring to it, not so much for information but to place me back on course when I'm stuck and blocked- (happens more than I'd like, when the stress gets to me,) yet I still would suggest, for more seasoned professionals, a higher level of diagnostic and prescriptive content.
If you are one of those good therapists who flounder when it comes to documentation; I'd say, "Go for it." But, if you're looking for a book to help with establishing a quality diagnosis and treatment plan for those true stumpers- sorry, this isn't the book.

I work in a mental health agency as an intake clinician, interviewing families and children and writing assessments to be used for case disposition and treatment planning. I see 4-6 families weekly and my work load has been eased enormously with this addition to my library. It sits right next to my DSM-IV and I use it daily. The language for long term goals and therapeutic interventions are clinically sound and there are a number of options in each to tailor for specific cases.

Get wrapping with the easy and fun book, DIY WRAP BRACELETS!

Wrap bracelets can be a lovely expression of your personal style.

The bracelets (along with necklaces, earrings, and rings to match, at times) from the comprehensive book, DIY WRAP BRACELETS, by Keiko Sakamoto, will encourage your imagination and guide you on your journey as you learn to create your own wrap bracelet.

No matter what your style, Keiko Sakamoto has you covered. You will find twenty five different styles of wraps in this wonderfully comprehensive book.
They range from the very simple to more complex.
The author employs a number of materials to vary the creations she offers. In DIY WRAP BRACELETS, you will find not only leather cord bracelets, but designs employing rhinestone chain with chiffon, braided linen cord, woven fabric, and more.
She explains how to make a bracelet which can also be worn as a necklace, and gives directions for pretty earrings as well.

Beauty is best when shared.

I was particularly attracted to "The Champagne Pearl Set", which gives instructions for a beautiful three strand bracelet with masses of pearls captured on wrapped beading thread, as well as earrings and ring. It is a fascinating project I can't wait to try.

The "Square Knot Rope Amulets", which feature a focal decorative connector captured by woven waxed linen cord, are super pretty, colorful and easy to learn. Choose your colorways and go to town making a few of these. Then stack them up your wrist for a hip look.

Love it, very inspiring

I just got this book today and looked through it and am eager to start making bracelets. The pictures are well done and clear, the projects contain materials list and easy to follow diagrams, and the color combinations and styles are inspiring. It doesn't just cover bracelets but also suggest adaptations for some of the designs into necklaces and earrings. There's even a project for a bracelet with a brooch where the brooch can be worn standalone. I love that the projects use a nice mix of different materials and beads. It is a good jump start for beginners and still suitable for intermediate makers.
