Invaluable Insight & Inspiration

As someone just beginning to establish an independent life and career, there are so many self-help books out there about networking, personal success, and career building. This is not one of those books, as the Forward precautions. Instead, Deal-Making for Good is a refreshing alternative to the gimmicky programs and the motivational acronyms that ultimately focus on selfish ambition. Mr. Rathgeber is a straight-shooter who leads and teaches by example. I found myself captivated by his real-life stories of successful, philanthropic deal-making.
It is rare for someone like me, young and just starting out in life, to have an inside look at the work of someone as important and integral to a community as Mr. Rathgeber. Every story is real and full of wise lessons that readers can use in business, inter-personal relationships, civic involvement, and career decisions. I believe that the lessons that I received by reading Deal-Making for Good will give me a head start on significant living. I have always known that my life is not my own, and I have a responsibility to give back. Now, I have the important tools and deal-making strategies from one of the best around.

I have been traveling the US as a national sales trainer in the home building industry for 3 yrs. We are always looking for something to give salespeople and staff an extra edge. This book is awesome!! Whether you are looking for an edge in business or want to make the world a better place, this book is a one of a kind. If "Think and Grow Rich" and "The Power of Positive Thinking" are required reading for success oriented people then add "Deal-Making for Good" to the list. For those outside of Central Texas Dick Rathgeber is a legend. His success in business and good works is distilled down to an entertaining and educational book about success in life. If you ever wondered "how do deals get done?" You are about to find out. READ THIS BOOK!

Creating a Better Life Though Effective Giving

Upfront, my wife and I are good friends of Dick and Sara Rathgeber. Which means that I have watched Dick in action generating resources for charities for the past 40 years. I can personally guarantee that the stores you read in "Deal-Maker for Good" are real down to the quotes, many of which I have heard in person.
There are two important lessons to take away from "Deal Maker for Good." The first lesson is approach. You must apply effective people and political skills and practical business principles in generating resources for charities. "Deal Making for Good" is built around case studies of building teams and leveraging and combining resources to achieve goals - the same approach which leads to successful businesses. The second lesson is attitude. People raising money for charities often have a "hat in hand" attitude and approach. Not Dick - he comes to you for participating in one of his philanthropic enterprises with the attitude that he is giving you an opportunity which will be personally profitable for you. Dick has always approached business on a "let make a deal where everyone wins." This is the outlook he brings to charitable giving. "Deal Making for Good" shows how you can help yourself and the people you are engaging to see the personal benefit to helping others. Attitude and approach must be combined to be successful. Reaching out to engage other people and build teams is natural for Dick but hard for most of us, particularly when we think we are asking for favors. "Deal Making for Good" teaches how to generate the convictions and thus the courage needed to have the "lets make a deal" attitude to philanthropy. Combining approach and attitude can enable any of us to make a difference.
The economic hard times we are passing through make "Deal Making for Good" even more topical than it would be in boom times. The load on charities is increased and giving is typically down. These effective strategies are more than ever needed to enable society to maintain support for those who are perhaps temporarily in need.
